Mobility Monday: Teamwork Makes the Dream Work

I heard this phrase early in my career and share it often “Teamwork makes the dream work”, but I experienced it in a whole new way this past week when one of our team members left our company to pursue a new career opportunity during the one of the busiest weeks of the year.

If you're in the relocation industry, you know what that means… school is out, families are moving, crews are stretched thin, trucks are limited, schedules change, and challenges arise. Our team needed support, so I jumped into a move coordination role for the week calling customers, surveying moves, sending estimates, and answering phones. It was a tough week, but we got through it. ‍

What stood out most was the strength of our team working together. From California to Florida and everywhere in between, people stepped up, stayed positive, and remained focused on the mission - serving our customers.

The week didn’t end on Friday at 5pm, our team continued Saturday morning logging in early to check in on critical relocations across the US. When I logged on at 6:30 a.m. on Saturday, I found our teammates in Dallas already online helping customer and communicating with our Nashville office well into the afternoon.  ‍

Nobody was asked to login over the weekend. Nobody was keeping score. They were simply doing what great teams do, showing up for each other and our customers. That’s teamwork. That’s excellence. That’s culture! That’s when you know you are part of a winning team.

...and it continued… on Sunday morning, I received a note from our customer service manager checking in with customer and the move crew before delivery began in Nashville.

One of our DNA elements at The Armstrong Company is Unity, “We are better together.”

This week - I experienced “Unity” and super proud of everyone who steps up each day to serve our customers. Now, only three more months of peak moving season ahead. It’s going to be a tough summer, but it’s easier when you’re part of a team that works together for a common goal.

Mobility Monday Moving Season Tips:

  • Nearly half of annual household moves occur between Memorial Day and Labor Day. Plan early as you may need to reserve move dates 14 days prior to loading and 21 days or more in some areas due to demand.‍

  • Florida's snowbird season can create transportation bottlenecks and higher demand for moving services – this is especially true moving your car out of the sunshine state.

  • Weather-related delays are among the most common causes of long-distance shipment schedule changes. Having a personal moving coordinator makes all the difference.

  • The most successful relocations focus not just on moving belongings, but on helping families settle into their new community. Every move has similar components, but every move has a different need.  Top of FormBottom of Form
